Overview

It may seem so far away now, but the three years of the past pandemic have affected every one of us in one way or another and have had an influence until now. It altered the way we travel, the way we educate, and the way we live our lives. As we are moving past that period of history, I think it may be time for us to start thinking back on some moments when something might have gone wrong and could have been better. This is not the first global crisis the entire human race has faced together and certainly will not be the last.

Therefore, I decided to create a narrative that simulates the happening of a pandemic. My goal is to depict a story that shows how some moments and decisions determine the development of a pandemic. To ensure the authenticity of my project, so that it would honestly reflect the reality of a progressing pandemic, I devised my story based on a comprehensive review of journalistic articles and reports. This way, my Twine narrative will maintain truthful and realistic

This Twine project, the “Pandemic Handling Simulator” intends to be a critical summary review of the past pandemic.  Using the non-linear story-telling mechanism of Twine, I have been stripped of the traditional authorial role and grappled with the concept of "the empowered reader" and "the decentered author", letting the player be the writer of the story. This way, players can be more actively engaged with the story and their reflections, seeing how different plots and endings unfold affected by the disparate decisions they made.

Hope you enjoy it!
